Under the Influence of Moxy and the Influence at Rocklahoma

After ten years of the mostly boys club, Moxy and the Influence, an all female band from Las Angeles, California became only the second all female band to play the Rocklahoma.  That’s not the only surprises these ladies have in store.  Ranging in age from 13 to 20, this band is ready to rock the rest of the US.

I wasn’t sure what to expect from this group except that they obviously made a good impression on the owner of Retrospect Records, Sam McCaslin, to earn a spot on the Rocklahoma Stage.  They certainly owned their set.   Moxy has a fantastic voice and the collective stage presence was very strong.  My son, Richie Reedy who was helping me for the weekend was very impressed, and with his demographic, that’s not easy.

Moxy Anne, the 18 year old vocalist and her band mates, Shea Hamilton, 17, Sydney Ellen, 20, and Alexey Poblete, 13, took a moment to catch up with Music Injection for some background on their ground breaking appearance.

They have often wanted to play large festivals but given their age, it has been difficult for them to travel over 1,000 miles to play any shows.  With their invitation this year, they were able to make it.  When asked if it was what they expected, in unison they replied “and more”.  For their Pre Party appearance, the jumbo tent covering the Camp Jaeger Stage, overflowed past the sound board.  “There were so many sober people, and so many more drunk people.  It was way more people than we anticipated”, is how Moxy described it.

Not bad for a solo project that Moxy and Sydney Ellen started just a little over three years ago.  Shae joined a short time after.  Alexey, who subbed in when they were in need of drummer, joined the group just a year ago.  Alexey can be seen here.

riding Tommy Lee’s roller coaster drum kit is an amazingly talented young lady who fits into the group very well despite the age difference. ( Her Father was traveling with her.)  Their new EP “The Best Revenge” is out now and available at all the usual outlets.  The video for Stomp You Down will premier July 6, 2016 View the teaser
