Reflecting on an illustrious career lasting over 30 years, virtuoso Steven Wilson is gearing up to bring an unforgettable evening of music to Australia in early November.  When Music Injection Aus asked about what to expect from these shows, Steven told us “a three-hour show with material from across my career. Some of these songs will be well known, but I’ll also be drawing from my back catalogue and hopefully offering up a few surprises for the fans!”.

Known for his ear for detail when mixing, mastering, and engineering for other artists, Steven mused that “preparing for these live shows is difficult, but once [touring] starts, it is like a well-rehearsed machine. I like to do the hard work in rehearsing rather than on the road”. He makes no secret of the fact that he enjoys music production the most of all, but says he is “extremely excited to come down to Australia and perform”. On a side note, many will be pleased to know that Steven is in talks with longtime friend and collaborator Mikael Akerfeldt in producing another Opeth record. He also has to say of working with Mikael: “I would love to do another Storm Corrosion record! I think though, we would have to call it by another name. We wrote that album to go with other works we’d both put out at the time, and now that we’ve closed the book on it, we would take it somewhere else”.

However, it is the current record from his solo project, To The Bone, as well as a suite of songs from past solo albums and his works with the legendary Porcupine Tree, that Steven will be bringing to fans across the country. When prodded about how he sees his career in hindsight, and if he is happy with where he is at, he concedes “on one hand, I’m extremely happy [but] part of me does think about the ‘what if’ though, you know? I sometimes wonder if maybe I could have played a bigger stadium, or to more people [but] I love what I do”. Steven is also quick to point out that “the reception to the new album, To The Bone, has been staggering” and isn’t phased by people finding it too pop-driven.

Joining Steven will be a cast of talented musicians including Alex Hutchings on guitar, Nick Beggs on bass, Craig Blundell behind the drums, and Adam Holmes on the keys. An Evening With Steven Wilson kicks off on the 8th of November in Brisbane, and is sure to be an unforgettable evening.

 An evening with:

Acclaimed Modernist Art-Rock architect Steven Wilson returns to Australia and New Zealand to present his most spectacular show yet, with four astonishing audio-visual extravaganzas.
