Steel Panther Is Coming… To Australia

Mothers lock up your daughters and husbands safe guard your wives, and possibly your Mums.  Steel Panther is sliding into Australia.

What can I say?  I love Steel Panther. Maybe it’s because in a world where political correctness matters, you can check it at the door for a couple of hours and just laugh at the absurdity and homage to hair metal.  Perhaps it is that they are pretty easy on the eyes.  Mostly, it is because, regardless of the subject matter, this group can actually write a catchy lyric and melody, even if you can’t sing most of their songs in public.

Each and every time I have seen them live, and it’s been quite a few, the vocals are consistent and Micheal Starr’s range is still there. Satchel definitely is one of my favorite guitarists having cut his teeth on Van Halen and many other influences shows.  Stix Zadinia, wearing a “Your Mother is my cardio” t shirt” still has my love.  Spyder is certainly making his path along, maybe needing to loosen up a little bit, but clearly part of the dynamic and is finding his way. He had a big can of hairspray to follow. The musicianship is serious, even if they aren’t, and they can hold an audience like nobody’s business. 

This, by far, was the smallest venue I’ve seen them play. The Culture Room in Fort Lauderdale has a capacity of around 650 people. They probably had every bit of that plus a few more crammed into this tiny show, a call back to the good ole days on the Sunset Strip, and they seemed to have great time.  I jumped at the chance to be one of those people witnessing what glam metal was really like: Dirty, Nasty, Sweaty business.

Starting today, Steel Panther brings their raunch and roll to Australia and I’m happy to say, they are a well needed respite from the real world.
