Babymetal Sells Out Filmore Auditorium In Denver Colorado

Supporting their release, “The Other One”, Babymetal rocked a capacity crowd at Live Nation run venue, The Filmore Auditorium along with Dethklok, and Jason Richardson. With the aptly titled ” Babyklok Tour”

If you don’t know who Babymetal is, let me give you a bit of background. They are a Japanese kawaii metal band. Original members Suzuka Nakamoto (aka Su-metal) and Moa Kikuchi (aka Moametal) blasted out of the gate in 2010, when Japanese idol and heavy metal came together in a blinding crash created as a sub group of the band Sakura Gakuin. Nakamoto eventually left this band and in 2013, and Babymetal became an independent band. This was when it really took off. What is most important to point out is Nakamoto is just now 25 years old. Making this talented person only 12 when Babymetal was formed. Riding the wave of the US obsession with Anime, and a strong fan base, including Rob Zombie, this group is a force of their own. Momoko Okazaki (aka Momometal) was announced on April 1, 2023 as their official third member. She has been performing as a third back up dancer as known as “Avengers” with the group since 2019. They perform more shows worldwide than in their home country.

The show was met with much anticipation. The line just to get in to door surrounded the entire block prior to doors opening at 5:30 PM. It was said by one fan that secondary market tickets were selling for excess of $220 USD for just general admission. Many fans purchased the limited upgrades, which sold out quickly, in order to get better vantage points than the traditional floor crowd. The venue is an old theater in downtown Denver, Colorado, converted into a great music venue, complete with the old school chandeliers on the ceiling and a terrific balcony area. I’ve been here before, and loved it then as well. It’s one of the main reasons I chose to cover this show specifically . Once Babymetal came onstage the crowd was fully involved in the show. There was more than one fan shouting Burabō (Bravo) in between songs. They performed their largest prior hit “Gimme Chocolate” early in the set, which got the crowd even more fevered.

This shoot was a bit different and rather than the industry standard of photographing the first three songs, we were allowed to only photograph songs six through eight. This was a bit difficult only because in order to get to the pit, we all had a maneuver through the crowd which, by the time the sixth song was about to begin, was wall to wall. We were escorted but I’m sure more than one fan was confused to have people shoving past them towards the front. The performance of their newest song “METALI!!” the recording which features Tom Morello from Rage Against The Machine, brought the house down. With nearly 2.5 million views in only a month, it is hot and extremely catchy!

The choreography is intricate and precise. The lighting: perfect. Even if certain types of music don’t appeal to you, this show will draw you in. See Tour dates below and a have a look at the full set list.
