Kaia Fincher’s Slowburn Is That Rare Christmas Song That Actually Says Something Real — out now

This December, emerging artist Kaia Fincher brings a fresh twist on festive music with her new single, Slowburn (Christmas Song) — a seductive, jazz-influenced offering with a sultry bossa nova lilt. Slowburn tells us a story about coming home and coming out. The track is out now across all streaming platforms.

While Christmas songs often rely on nostalgia, familiarity and tradition as a base for narratives, Slowburn creates space for listeners whose personal stories don’t fit neatly into a traditional Christmas frame. It speaks to those for whom the yearly return home to family involves the weight of carrying a love that has not yet been uttered out loud — love that should be recognised in holiday music just as much as any other.

Blending delicate piano, upright bass,  a brushed snare and feather-light vocals, Slowburn feels like a candlelit confession — an intimate, cinematic, and disarming dinner date. Yet, beneath its softness lies a deeper story about identity, family norms, unspoken truths, and the quiet courage required to show up as yourself during a season rooted in tradition.

Kaia Fincher says:

“We’re ending 2025, and somehow, many countries are passing laws that target LGBTQ+ people. I’ve been reflecting a lot on what it means to come home. Not every queer person gets to show up as their full self. Not every parent wants to accept a version of their child that doesn’t fit their expectations. And not every Christmas offers a place of comfort. The world can be loud, cruel, and confusing — but love within a family should never be conditional. I wanted to write something gentle, warm, and honest. A song that tells queer listeners: you deserve to be safe, to be seen, and to be loved. Every queer person should be able to walk through the front door without shrinking, apologising, or hiding who they are. And I will always stand for that — through my music, my voice, and the stories I choose to tell.

Slowburn is what it feels like to come home to the people you love most while carrying a part of yourself they’ve never seen — not because you don’t trust them, but because you’re afraid they won’t understand. It’s about a love that has grown too big to hide, a truth that’s tired of waiting for you to be brave. For me, Slowburn captures that quiet moment at the family table, smiling through small talk, meanwhile another life glows inside you, finally asking to be seen.”

Beneath its gentle glow, Slowburn (Christmas Song) is unmistakably Kaia Fincher. The track leans into her lifelong love of jazz — a sound she grew up hearing on vinyl, from Chet Baker to Ella Fitzgerald and Billie Holiday. For Kaia, those records have always carried the warmth of the season: soft lights, slow evenings, a house filled with music and memories. This release allows that side of her to surface. It’s a gentle nod to the classics, filtered through her own atmospheric, modern sensibility — intimate, cinematic, and deeply human.

With its layered emotional resonance and subtle musical elegance, Slowburn (Christmas Song) stands as one of the season’s most compelling releases — not because it shouts, but because it beckons, winks, and whispers something true. It’s a track that honours the queer stories often left out of festive culture, offering comfort and courage wrapped in melody and warm light. Equal parts nostalgic and quietly radical, Slowburn (Christmas Song) feels like a slow exhale — a modern holiday classic in the making.

Who is Kaia Fincher?

Kaia Fincher is an artist, producer, and composer from Brighton, UK. Her work blends emotional honesty with atmospheric, modern pop, moving between delicate electronic textures, cinematic arrangements, and intimate vocals — a space where vulnerability feels bold and softness becomes its own kind of dynamic power.

Music has always been at the centre of Kaia’s life. She grew up obsessed with jazz records, harmonies, and the emotional architecture of songs. She began writing music as a child and has spent her life travelling, researching, absorbing sounds and stories from around the world — all of which now resonate through her sonic identity.

Kaia’s sound is distinctive: synth-driven textures, driving, hypnotic basslines and intricate, emotive vocals that feel both fragile and fearless. Her visuals, writing, and production embrace queerness, sensuality, a sense of play and emotional clarity, creating an artistic imaginary that is intimate, cinematic, and undeniably her own.

She first reached wider audiences with her debut single “Something New,” followed by a hypnotic club remix of this release, expanding her sonic world and showcasing her fluid, shape-shifting approach to music. Kaia creates a space where vulnerability meets euphoria — where introspection turns into movement, and emotion becomes atmosphere.

In Autumn 2025, Kaia debuted her first Live Session in Brighton, giving an intimate acoustic set for Slack City Radio that included her debut single and two unreleased tracks scheduled for release throughout winter and spring 2026 — offering a peek into her next creative chapter.

Kaia Fincher is part of a rising new wave redefining what pop can be — cinematic, emotionally intelligent, and unafraid to tell the stories that matter. She writes for those who live between categories, who carry quiet courage and experience love, desire & identity in ways the world is still learning to celebrate. Her music unfolds in the space between feeling, introspection, and radical self-acceptance, proving that strength and sensuality are not bound to any gender.

Kaia Fincher isn’t a name. It is a decision.
