Florida-based duo COLOURS are gearing up to release their debut album Ivory on February 26 via Victory Records. After holing up up with producer Shaun Lopez (††† Crosses, Deftones, Lupe Fiasco) in his Burbank studio over 6 weeks last year, they are proud to present Ivory – 11 crafted tracks of lush, dark electronica tinged with smooth R&B undertones, led by the single ‘Monster’.
COLOURS – vocalist Kyle Tamo and drummer Morgan Alley – formed in 2013, experimenting with new music styles after time spent by both in previous bands, soon releasing a series of music videos to showcase their newly found partnership. The self-released EP Skin and Bones (2013) saw them noted by Alternative Press in their coveted “Bands To Watch” list among other accolades.
The duo wrote continuously for 14-months in the lead up to recording Ivory, which is testament to the band’s attitude of only releasing the best possible result. On working with Shaun Lopez, Alley said, “Shaun has a great ear for tone. He was able to listen to the songs we created, understand the direction and breathe new life into them.”
Ivory navigate listeners through from sleek opener ‘Lawless’, through to tracks like ‘Slow’ and our personal favourite ‘Gold Bones’ which showcase the depths of Tamo’s vocal range. In discussing the album’s lyrics, Tamo goes on to explain, “We write with someone else’s feelings in mind. There is a purposeful vagueness to most of my lyrics, preserving the attractiveness of personal interpretation.”
To celebrate the release of Ivory, COLOURS will be hitting the road with Robert Delong in the US this month, playing their final show together at The Social in Orlando on release day.
