Harrison from ‘At Sunset’ chats to Jen about their crazy year last year and their Australian Tour.

Having just finished up a run of shows around the country supporting international heartthrobs R5 and The Vamps, Australia’s hottest new pop rock trio, At Sunset have today announced their own national headline tour to promote their new single, Kiss Me. Set to kick off at Fowlers Live in their hometown of Adelaide on March 12, the tour will then hit Melbourne’s Rubix Warehouse on March 13, Sydney’s The Lair on March 19 and will finish up at Brisbane’s Old Museum on March 20.

Having already picked up a stack of national radio additions across Australia, new single Kiss Me showcases the band’s impressive knack for writing incredibly catchy, guitar-driven pop rock smashes. Lead singer Harrison explains, “Kiss Me is about falling quickly and easily in love with someone to the point that all you want to do is spend every minute of every day having fun with them!”

With well over one million fans on facebook, 250,000 plus followers on twitter and having amassed over five million views on youtube, there’s no wonder everyone is talking about this anthemic pop-rockin’ trio from Adelaide.

Just back from The Philippines, At Sunset are excited to return home to jump straight back on the road to play for fans.  “It feels amazing to finally be doing our own headline tour.  We’ve been writing and rehearsing for a while now, so we are so ready to get out and perform all of our new tracks to the fans… everyone can expect loud guitars, thumping bass, catchy tunes and a few jokes…. Andrew thinks he’s funny,” laughs Harrison.

Hi Harrison, thanks for your time.

Last year was a huge year for you, so much happened for you and 2016 sounds like it will only get better! 

Last year was incredible. We set some pretty big goals and it’s great to say we achieved them. This year has started with a bang ! we’ve been touring since the 2nd of January and really looking forward to a crazy year! 

 Does your success so far feel like a dream as it has been like a whirlwind? 

Definitely!  I don’t think any of us expected this, but a lot of hard work has gone into it and it’s great to see some awesome results. 

 Focusing on last year, how was the mentoring session with Ed Sheeran? I admire him for his amazing talent.

As do I!! But meeting him and understanding where he came from and the career he has created for himself is mindblowing! He had some amazing advice to give and was so genuine in his response to our music. He is a total legend! 

 

What was the highlight for you? Or possibly highlights plural! 

I think winning the MTV BRAND NEW award last year was a real highlight ! It was our first major nomination and to win that…it was crazy! 

 Also heading to the Philippines in FEB was incredible. We knew we had a fan base there but nothing we imagined came close to the response we received when we toured with BOYCE AVENUE . 

 Any funny stories you can tell us about your tours with R5 and The Vamps?

Haha…R5 nearly killed me with a boomerang. (Not even joking) 

Holy Crap!

Ellington whipped in a massive throw in the venue whilst we were sound checking. The boomerang did a full 360 but happened to keep going and missed my head by 1cm….the breeze was if someone had blown on my neck! 

Haha …. (Good times) 

 Was there one things that your learnt from these artists that you will take with you for your musical career? Either to do or not to do? 

Being humble! 

It’s something that we pride our selves on also. Treating people nicely and the way you want to be treated  is something that no matter what happens …it’s shouldn’t change and those lads are living proof of no matter the success they are still great people! 

 You new single ‘Kiss Me’ is a super catchy song with a great meaning.

 Everyone I am sure can relate to this no matter how old they are. Can you tell us how your writing process goes? Is it a whole band effort?

Every song is different . Sometimes I can bring an idea, a melody or even some lyrics to a writing session and within a couple ours we’ve created it into an “AT SUNSET” track! 

 Every session we have … Coffee is a non negotiable…it is a must. Haha 

 You have been writing while touring, do you find that is easy to do? Usually touring can be motivating or very tiring so little writing gets done.

I think the best ideas come from the road. It can be any emotion but it’s the craziest places…random studios…that you can come up with your best work. When you vibe it…you just vibe it! 

 How did your tour go in The Philippines? From what I saw on facebook there were many adoring fans! Was there a particular highlight to share?

 It was beyond amazing! From traveling to the ground floor of our hotel…ordering a Starbucks to shopping in a mall our fans were everywhere…and it was crazy! They are such beautiful people…we loved their culture and they adore music! We can’t thank them enough…then having the opportunity to perform an arena show with a band that has always had a Massive influence on us…BOYCE AVENUE . It was an incredible start to the year. 

 

 You start your headline Australian tour this coming Saturday. I can tell from your facebook that you are super stoked to have your first headlining tour in your home country.  What are you ticket sales like so far? 

We are actually really surprised … Nearly every venue is at capacity so that’s a real cool feeling to know that our fans are willing to spend money and check out some live music! We promise that it will be awesome! And we’re offering an upgrade to come and meet us, which is so important…for us to personally connect with the fans that have been supporting us makes this all worthwhile. Those packages are nearly sold out as well, which is so much proof that the connection is real!

 What can fans expect from your shows? Is Andrew actually funny or does he just think he is? Haha

Haha they can expect a show they haven’t seen before – we’re getting loud! Get ready for some crazy lights too! It’s something different to the recorded version so I hope everyone enjoys it! 

 Andrew will always bust out a joke here and there … Wait till you hear his latest…it’s a sink or swim kind of moment haha 

 Finally,a two part question, ( you might have been asked this question a lot and I think you will be for many more years), 

a)    How is it working with your brother? I know that I could not work with mine! 

Haha we love to argue…compete with everything…even to who can take on a food challenge at dinner but in all honesty …touring with your bro makes it still feel like your home. It’s also really cool to have someone back up your stories when we come home and no one believes you…I’ll always have a witness haha 

 b)   Were your dream of becoming a success as a Musician supported by your parents? They must be proud of you both. 

 They are super proud. They have been amazing and they even make some crazy drives to see us play when ever they can . They are incredible and will support us to the moon and back!
