To celebrate the release of their fourth album By Default, Band Of Skulls are back with an east coast tour this month, bringing with them a string of bangin’ local supports; The Pretty Littles and From Oslo in Melbourne, Flowertruck and Fine China in Wollongong, Flowertruck in Sydney, In Motion in Newcastle and Morning Harvey in Brisbane!
Known as Melbourne’s cheeky rock rascals, indie garage band The Pretty Littles have well and truly established themselves as a band to be watching in 2016. Their signature lighthearted larrikinism is showcased in the release of their third record Soft Rock for the Anxious (featuring triple j favourites ‘Pride’ and ‘Sleeping in Water’). With a sound and live show reminiscent of Black Rebel Motorcycle Club and The White Stripes, things are bound to get loud and sweaty!
Formed over a love affair of neo-grunge, From Oslo are a breath of fresh air in the Melbourne rock scene, with the band’s sound sitting somewhere between Violent Soho, Death From Above 1979, Japandroids and The Orwells. Teaming up with producer Jez Giddings, the duo released their second EP earlier this year. Its lead single ‘No Sound’ has been added to triple j and been described as “sing-a-long grunge punk” with the “hooks to match the power”.
Drawing influences from the likes of Talking Heads, The Smiths and The Go-Betweens, Sydney four-piece FLOWERTRUCK have a sound that has been described as instantly catchy garage pop-rock. Recently nominated as Best Live Act for FBi SMAC Awards, FLOWERTRUCK have toured up and down the Australian coast, released their debut 5-track EP Dirt and built a resounding fan base outside their inner-western-Sydney neighborhood.
Wollongong favourites Fine China is a new project consisting of four musicians that mix rock ‘n’ roll, psychedelia, pop melodies and electronica.
In Motion are a three-piece alt-rock band fresh out of Newcastle. Their 2016 kicked off with the release of their first single ‘My Kind of Woman’ off their debut EP Change. Recorded at Mainstreet Studios in Wollongong by Adam Jordan (Nick Oliviri – QOTSA, The Vanns, The Choirboys) and mastered by Tony ‘Jack the Bear’ Mantz (Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, Kisschasy, Something for Kate); the end result is a strong, riff-heavy sound that sits deep in the pockets of the rhythm section with a powerful vocal to match.
Morning Harvey is the hook-laden, sunshine-drenched pop brainchild of lead singer and songwriter Spencer White. Fresh from supporting The Dandy Warhols’ national tour and with two BIGSOUND showcases, three headline tours and a cracker performance at Groovin’ The Moo (Townsville) under their belts, the band is said to boast one of the country’s best live shows.
