Thundamentals launch art exhibition to celebrate the release of their new album “Everyone We Know”

Hip-hop outfit Thundamentals have announced a special touring art exhibition which will celebrate the launch of their upcoming album “Everyone We Know” which was released on Friday February 10th (through High Depth/Universal Music Australia) Titled “Everyone We Know: Exhibition Tour”, the ARIA nominated band have engaged Sydney artist and graphic designer April77 Creative to create a conceptual exhibition inspired by each track from the new album.  Each song will be represented by a different character or person which will make up the works of the 16 piece graphic art collection.

We’ve worked with April77 since day one. He almost feels like a part of the band and has always understood our message and vision – going above and beyond every time. For this particular release, early on we knew we wanted a character to represent each of the songs on the album. It was an incredible experience going back and forth, refining each aspect of the front cover. And furthermore it’s a blessing to have him on board for the book. Ben actually designed 15 individual environments for each character and we are so happy with how everything came out – a perfect visual pallet for the entire record! – says Thundamentals MC Tuka.
April77 Creative aka Ben Funnell has been involved in the creative process of all the artwork for the groups previous album and EP releases and most notably the album Art Direction and Cover Design for their highly acclaimed “So We Can Remember” and “Everyone We Know” albums.
thundamentals-01Speaking on the “Everyone We Know” artwork series, April77’s Ben Funnell says – “The theme for ’Everyone We Know’ is about people and ‘connectivity’ which we found really inspiring. We also felt a strong sense of diversity across each track on the LP in terms of subject matter and sonics. Our visual answer to this was to embrace and celebrate the diversity of Thundamentals fan base and friends – but rather than go with a literal representation of this broad demographic we aimed to really illuminate these differences by creating a series of hybrid human/alien/animal characters, all standing together. Each character was inspired by a different track on the LP. Some are more literal representations than others but there are many references to key lyrics and themes that stood out to us throughout. We hope that the artwork is enjoyed while listening to the album and the audience takes the time to uncover these references, as well as search for their own meaning and connection to the music and visual as a whole.”

The Everyone We Know: Exhibition Tour” will travel around to all capital cities starting in Melbourne on Tuesday Feb 7th  at The Church of Bang Bang Boogaloo and finishing in Perth on Thursday Feb 16th (venue tbc). FREE for EVERYONE to enter, venue capacity will be capped so best to arrive early. While viewing each work, music and art lovers will be able to hear songs from “Everyone We Know”as well as purchase a limited edition bundle which includes a numbered high quality print of their favourite artwork and a copy of the album.
