Horizon Theory – It’s All About The Future
Belinda (The Metallicougar) sits down with Horizon Theory
If you don’t yet know who Horizon Theory is, it’s really just a matter of time. Getting to know them isn’t difficult and quite frankly, it’s fun. This group is about as warm and welcoming from the first minute as anyone could possibly be.

Sitting down with Chris Black, Luen Murr and Jeff Hafer, was nothing more than the feeling of a good group of people just meeting new friends. Unfortunately, lead vocalist Josh Harrington was unable to join due to illness. ” I’ve (Chris Black) have spent the last year writing music with our singer who, unfortunately isn’t with us on this tour. He had some issues and ended up in the hospital, uh, a little bit. We’re hoping to get him back soon, maybe even before this tour is over. Just trying to make it work without him.” They have been touring with his vocals tracked, and are very upfront about it. “It’s going surprisingly better than I thought. I was very nervous about this”, said Chris. “I’m not a front man, I don’t talk to the crowd or anything. So, I had to explain to people evreynight befroe the show starts that we don’t have a singerand that we have his vocals on tracks. I do as many vocals as I can. It was nerve wracking , but now everybody seems very open and receptive to it and actually really supportive. So far as the live sound everybosy has been telling us we sound great. A lot of people seem to really appreciate the effort. As far as how they would describe their sound Chris offered: “I’m not sure what genre you would call it. Hard rock, mixed with some new metal. A positive uplifting sound and lyrically I think it’s headed that way too. Something that everybody could enjoy”
Jeff Hafer, the resident rythum keeper was being entirely too quiet, so I just called him out for it, asking him to tell me a little bit about himself. This ilicited a big laugh from his band mates. ” I’m a capricorn and (uh) nah. I play in abother bad as well called Nagazi. I’ve known these guys for quite some time. In November I got a phone call that said ‘hey, you want to put down some drum tracks’ and ever since then we just have a really good relationship together. We play well and feed off each other a lot. It’s a good vibe onstage.” Also off stage, if you’re asking this lady’s humble opinion.

Being stuck on a bus for mile after mile can really wear on a person, especially if they can’t get along. It’s the equvilent of the longest road trip in history peppered with hard work in between. Nothing kills the vibe of an interview than a group of people who are just sick of looking at each others’ faces. There’s a real motivation behind all of the lonely touring songs that nearly every band writes at one point of their career or another. These guys had a strong energy of buddies on a cross country adventure and it comes through on stage. Jeff summed it up well. ” I think that’s what is translating out to the audience seeing that we’re up there, we’re having fun. We’re energetic about it. We’re having fun, positive about it. It rubs off, ya know”.
“I’m a bass player.”, Luen chimed in. “I enjoyed this project a lot because me and this guy ( Chris) have been working together for like six years. I think the sound, this energy between guitar and bass player, it’s kind of like that good connection. To me it’s more meaning full, like a fresh start.”

Chris says they are looking for something for the summer. Coming off of their March 17th release of their single “Past Life” ( Mastered by the award winning Maor Appelbaum and produced by Chris Black at Straight Jacket Studios), they intend to release a new single “about every six weeks” to keep up with the Spotify and other streaming platforms cycles., for a total of eight songs out this year. They have two more music videos on the way as well. Follow the links below to keep up with any major announcements and new releases!
