The Paper Kites ‘twelvefour’ release date is tomorrow 28th of August!

The Paper Kites display the musical depth of their band with the sound of ‘twelvefour’ with clever relatable lyrics that will strike a chord within your heart. This album is a must addition to your music collection and should be placed in a Relaxation playlist.

Most of us are usually fast asleep between the hours of 12 and 4 am but not Sam Bentley who after hearing a comment of a friend decided to write this album in the small hours of the night. “The album is a concept record, based around a theory that an artist’s creative peak is between the hours of midnight and 4am,” Turning his sleep patterns around for two months Sam worked through the night and wrote 30 songs in his studio. This concept was highly successful as ‘twelvefour’ is a must have album in your music collection. Even though the end product of Sam working those hours was worth it he states. “I got to the end and thought, I’m never doing that again,”

Sam sums up the album “Late-night isolation, a confession, an apology… The album as a whole is an open letter. Words and melodies written very late at night to attempt to understand the heaviest of choices, which is choosing someone else or yourself.”

Recorded last February in Seattle with producer Phil Ek was a joy according to the band. Over 6 weeks the band was pushed to do their best. There will be a documentary about the making of the album that you can look forward to watching.

The opening track and lead single off ‘twelvefour’ Electric Indigo is destined to be a hit. This laid back song with Sam’s aussie accent filtering through transports you to another place. The catchy guitar tune and the backing vocals stay in my head well after the song has finished playing. You can watch the music video here.

The concept of the music video fits in with the night writing sessions of Sam by being based around a writer that needs to find inspiration in the early hours of the morning.

After listening to Electric Indigo I put my headphones on and lay down to listen to the rest of the album and was transported into the world of relaxation. Lyrically Renegade is the standout song for me. With lyrics such “Standing in your sun, you took me in, it eclipsed me’ this is a song that many people will connect to. ‘Neon Crimson’ and ‘A Silent Cause’ has haunting harmonies that make this song an intimate listening experience. The harmonies of Sam’s and Christina are a perfect match.Then the album changes slightly and has a indie country feel with I’m Lying To You Cause I’m Lost’ and ‘Woke Up From A Dream” adding gentle harmonica to the sound.

I think this is a record to be proud of. Sam states “This record is the sound of five people trying to make something they’re proud of. And we really are,” I agree Sam, you should all be very proud.

The Paper Kites is made up of Sam Bentley, Christina Lacy, David Powys, Josh Bentley and Sam Rasmussen.
