Jen chats to Kevin from Holywood Heartache about their new EP and Australian Tour.
Hi Kevin, thanks for your time to tell us more about Hollywood Heartache. You guys are a relative new band, did you guys all met at high school or is it a different story?
Our bassist Will and myself had been in a few different bands/musical projects previously and we wanted to try a new direction, so we formed what is now Hollywood Heartache. We found and stole our drummer Josh from another band and then I met and found AJ over gumtree 😉
I did not know that you can buy musicians on gumtree! haha
Your bio says that you sound like 5 Seconds of Summer, All time Low and The Vamps. Are these bands influences on you as well? Is there anyone or any musician that has influenced you personally?
For me personally 5 Seconds of Summer have been a huge influence in terms of motivation and helping me to stay in the right direction. They have accomplished so much in such a short space of time and it’s truly amazing. All Time Low will always be a big influence to me musically as I grew up listening to them and am a pop-punk kid at heart.
Snap! Even at my age I am still a pop-punk kid at heart.
Have you got supportive families that are allowing you to follow your dreams?
All of our families have been very supportive in what we do, whether it be financially or simply coming to shows and putting in a positive word. We honestly couldn’t have got to where we are now without the help of our families and we would like to thank them so much.
Your debut EP called ‘Eager Hearts’ is out now? Can you tell us a little about the writing process for the EP? Was it a whole band approach or was it more individual?
Pretty much we spent a solid 3 weeks or so coming to my home studio every night and staying up till horribly late hours writing and recording all the songs. There were a few more songs that we wrote than whats on the EP but we picked what we thought were the best songs and that became Eager Hearts.
Love how you used a pic of Kevin Rudd holding your EP, your band is good at photoshop?
We sent Kevin Rudd a copy of our EP and he thought it was amazing so took a photo of it. Whats photoshop?
haha! You had some really sweet merch preorder deals for your fans, are those still available?
Yup, all our merch will be on sale right through to the end of our tour or until we run out of stock
You toured the east coast of Australia and Adelaide in June/July, how did the crowds receive your music?
Overall it was awesome for a first tour. I’d have to say Adelaide and Brisbane were the best in terms of turnout. But it was great to see so many people getting into our music at all the shows. We are hoping this tour will be bigger and better with lots of new faces.
What is the biggest gig that you have played?
In this band, probably our Brisbane show at The Lab on our last tour. We had an awesome turnout and despite many, many technical issues, everyone had a great time.
Who would be your ultimate band to tour with?
My personal choice would be 5SOS or All Time Low.
You guys are the social media’s dream for fans, you respond to fans via facebook and twitter and have a really strong following. Is that something that the whole band contributes to or is it one person in particular?
When it comes to important and business related posts I handle all of that. But all the guys post and reply to fans when possible.

Really love your video for Summer Romance. Did you advertise to your fans to join in ?
Yeah we actually made the spontaneous decision to get our fans involved the day before we shot it. So we quickly made a last minute post seeing if anyone would come and we had over 40 people rock up which was absolutely awesome!
It certainly looked like a fun music video to do, any funny stories from the day?
Well, Will got pushed into a massive hole dug in the sand and all the fans completely buried him which was pretty amusing haha.
Your bio suggests that you have some great plans coming up in the future anything that you can share with us now?
We are touring in December again to the same places as last time. You can find all the dates and ticketing information on our FB or Twitter. Besides that we are working on new music already and also have a bunch of other big and exciting things coming up which I must keep secret for now 😉
