Introducing August with their debut single ‘Sword’ Released 15th April 2016
‘Sublime….noisy synths clashing with glacial songwriting. The sighing vocals are matched against brutalist electronics, akin to LCD Soundsystem with some Beach House mixed in.’ Clash
New indie-pop London duo August are Steve Hughes (vocals, guitars, production) and Ed Carlisle (drums, production) who have just revealed their debut single ‘Sword’ released on April 15th 2016. Mixed by Charlie Hugall (Florence & The Machine, Halsey), ‘Sword’ is a burning dark anthem with synths and layered vocals that lift into a pulsating hypnotic chorus.
August describe ‘Sword’ as “A dark love song, a plea for desire no matter what the personal consequences. It was written from a chaotic place where nothing seemed to be going right, but it has shreds of hope in it too, that the chaos doesn’t matter if you can hold on to that person.”
The duo, who cite influences like LCD Soundsystem, Daughter, Frank Ocean and Beach House, enjoy making distorted drum sounds and playing noisy 80’s synths and are currently making plans to debut these and more, in their forthcoming debut live shows coming soon.
