Ethereal singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Bree Tranter has announced her long-awaited debut solo album Another Night on Earth, to be independently released on June 24. Formerly of indie-folk outfit The Middle East, over the last few months Bree Tranter has taken to social media to tease cuts from the album, and has now unveiled the video for ‘Tuesday Fresh Cuts,’ the latest single from the album and a collaborative self-produced art project filmed by Bree herself.
Written and recorded over a two year period, Another Night on Earth is an enchanting and beautifully crafted offering that ebbs and flows between lush, angelic dream-pop and hushed, glitchy electronica. Over the course of 11 songs, the album flickers between two distinct moods – the first communicated through atmospheric synthesizers and whimsical downbeats, the all-encompassing sensuality of these songs fittingly captured during bedroom studio recordings, and the latter via an expansive live-band component, markedly more fierce and upbeat, recorded in just three days at Linear Studios in Sydney.
A hazy, visual love-letter to Sydney, ‘Tuesday Fresh Cuts’ remains true to Bree’s firm DIY-aesthetic, having singlehandedly driven the development of the clip, much like the formation of her forthcoming album. An intimate look-in to one’s life in the big city, the video highlights the varying elements of ‘homeliness’ one might identify with, whether that be glimmering city lights and rolling waves, or shadowy streets against the twilight sky, the serene visuals a fitting compliment to Bree’s sultry and hypnotic vocal.
Townsville-native Bree Tranter was first introduced to audiences as vocalist, flutist and keyboardist of beloved Australian group The Middle East. Departing from the sound of her former band, Bree took a new direction and released her EP Jaws in 2013, spawning the stunning single ‘Wounded Love,’ and drawing comparisons to artists such as Zola Jesus and Austra. During this time, Bree transitioned to a full-time member of Matt Corby’s band to tour locally and abroad, as well as supported artists including Jarryd James, Passenger and Oliver Tank, dedicating any spare moment on the road to the creation process of Another Night on Earth, a project cultivated through exploration of self and the convergence of music, sex and love.
