Brisbane best purveyors of alternative rock, THE IRON EYE are today releasing possibly the BEST GOD DAMNED VIDEO CLIP YOU’LL SEE THIS YEAR.
As if the track itself isn’t produced-by-Tom-Larkin-of-Shihad-super-awesome-level already, the clip takes the song and ratchets it up by about a factor of ten.
The filmclip plays out in reverse, meaning that the carnage that is the product of the shoot can be seen right at the start of the clip. The band played (and sung!) the song in reverse, which means they are going forward. Everyone else in the clip is going backwards. All manner of liquids, solids, Motorbikes, basketballs, silly string and couches and Ukuleles are featured and destroyed.
David Webster, who directed the videoclip, said “The basic idea for the “Just Started” video literally happened in 5 seconds. I was watching the video for Violent Soho’s “Viceroy” and in those first few moments I thought that it was going to be in reverse and that all the mess would disappear. I soon realised that that wasn’t the case, but I kept a hold of the idea anyway.”
Drummer for the band, Antonio Mancini, thinks it was worth the effort. “What started as a simple and effortless project quickly engulfed all of our time until we drove ourselves reverse crazy. Learning the song backwards, thinking of cool stuff backwards and basically viewing everything from finish to start.
It was shot in one take in a workshop in Albion and the clean up was a thing of nightmares. The end product looks chaotic but it’s actually all planned out and we could not have asked for a better bunch of friends to carry out these tasks, together with Adrian Goleby filming and editing (this guy is a legend!) it was the perfect crew and we’re stoked with how it turned out.”
The Brisbane trio are taking to the stage on October 8 alongside Melbourne’s rock legend Dallas Frasca at Woolly Mammoth.
The Iron Eye have supported Kiwi rock-royalty Shihad, as well as Grenadiers, Sydonia, King of the North, Jericco, Nine Sons of Dan, Sub Atari Knives and more.
