COLLAPSING SCENERY: ‘GOD’S LEAST FAVORITE’ EP OUT NOW

Weird, wonderful and occasionally creepy.” – Noisey

“a throbbing slab of fuzzed-out drone-funk that’s in the same orbit as, say, early-’90s hip-hop-influenced Sonic Youth.” –

“Think of a transcendentally twisted fairy tale from hell in beautiful chaos, and you’re right there with Collapsing Scenery” –Flaunt

“[Metaphysical Cops‘] accompanying video, realized by Collapsing Scenery’s multi-instrumentalist and sound artist Don Devore, reflects the tension within the song through visual abstraction and disorientation.” –Purple

“[Metaphysical Cops] opens with an 8-bit feel that could serve as a dark backdrop for an early ’90s fighting/adventure game with Debris’ smooth, breathy vocals sitting on top. Then things get trippy, becoming much more ambient and chaotic with huge atmospheric sweeps and whomping sequences. Get ready for a hell of a ride.” –Stereogum

Collapsing Scenery featuring Don De Vore (Icarus Line/Lilys/Ink & Dagger) & Reggie Debris return with ‘God’s Least Favorite‘, four songs that twist beauty and catastrophe, control and chaos to tackle social and political topics weaved in undeniable rhythm and meter. In a genre often lacking in lyrical bite, theirs is electro music with meaning and purpose. It flexes the head as well as the heart.

The EP leads with the taut post-punk electro single Metaphysical Cops, a techno-inspired opus whose title takes inspiration from Russian-American novelist Vladimir Nabokov, specifically the quote from ‘Pnin’: “Metaphysical police can break physical bones.” The body of the lyrics were inspired by the great Harpers piece ’Straight Man’s Burden’ by Jeff Sharlet, and they muse on the culpability of segments of the U.S. religious right in the implementation of Uganda’s horrific anti-gay laws. It considers the very real consequences of invidious and extremist American ideologies which, struggling to find a foot-hold at home, are transplanted into new territories.

God’s Least Favorite EP will be released on vinyl and digital download via Metropolitan Indian Records on September 30th in the US with an exclusive remix of “Common Cause” by Youth Code (Digital only).

In support of the EP, Collapsing Scenery also announces a record release show on September 30th at Knockdown Center in NYC with Wu Tang Clan’s CappadonnaExcepter + more.
