Jesse Porches chats to Jen about his debut solo single ‘The Weekend’.

Up-and-coming Sydney DJ and producer Jesse Porsches has released the official video for his debut solo single, ‘The Weekend’. The glimmering dance pop jam enlists Sydney singer-songwriter Xavier Dunn on vocal duties (who himself had a breakout year in 2016 topping Spotify’s USA Viral Chart).

A song about fleeting connection, acceptance of a short-lived love and a celebration that some relationships aren’t meant to be forever, ‘The Weekend’ is a perfect anthem to send you running for the dance floor.

Jen caught up with Jesse for a chat about his news.

Hi Jesse, you are having the best year this year, can you give us a rundown of all the great things that you have achieved or has happened to you?

Hello Jen!! Thanks so much!! so many good things happening at the moment, Some highlights include; signing to my label Dew Process/Astral Werks in the states.

Playing Mix up tent at Splendour in the Grass with my side project Super Cruel!

Releasing a track with Lisa Mitchell and releasing my very own first single “The weekend” with Xavier Dunn. So much more coming as well, really excited about everything at the moment.

Although this brilliant year is not by chance. You have worked extremely hard doing weddings and birthday parties to get to this point. Is there anything that you have done that has stood out as the worse thing ever?

I have played countless gigs to empty rooms and probably wrote over 200 songs that i never released to get to this point but its all a part of the process!!

Are you an Iron Maiden fan? (T-shirt) or are you wearing that ironically?

Haha – I always reply “Run to the Hills” whenever people call me out on wearing merch without knowing the band. I’m yet to fool anyone.

Good one! What music did you grow up listening to?

Grew up listening to a lot of Soul/RNB – Janet Jackson, Aretha Franklin, George Michael, Whitney Houston, Tupac.

‘The Weekend’ as a debut single is amazing. It is catchy and gets stuck in your head but in a good way. (not a Billy Ray Cyrus Achy Breaky Heart way!)  Your writing process how does that work? Do you think of things on the go, like driving in your car or do you have set times where you sit down as say ok I am writing now?

Thanks so much!! At the moment i’ve been channeling a lot of stuff happening inmy life in the writing. Usually it’s done on the day in the studio. at the moment I’ve been writing a lot about heartbreak haha.

You don’t know how much watching the music video made me hang out for the summer. I am Melbournian and are freezing here, snow expected tomorrow where I live.

Was your intention to make everyone crazy in this cold weather? Not fair! ☺

No seriously was it planned to be released in winter where we can’t see the summer ever coming?

That was never my intention!! it’s always summer somewhere in the world right? 😉

While watching the music video I noticed many comments about it that were so positive. Do you take the time to read what fans write about you? Or is it something that you choose not to.

I really try hard to ignore the negative comments but they are always the ones that stay in your head. its always a good feeling to see positive comments!!

Did you enjoy the making of the music video? Any amusing stories you can share?

The music video was so much fun to make!!! I accidentally booked the wrong lead guy for the video clip and only realised the day before by complete accident. It was chaos in the last 24 hours as you can imagine trying to sort it out.

What is next for you. Tell us about your tour and is that a Bali date I see?

I can’t say to much a this point but I have a major lazer/Super Cruel official remix about to drop on Friday, a new single with Super Cruel and then a follow up single for Jesse Porsches! Also Bali is the first international gig i am playing so i am super excited about that as you can imagine. Also playing Spilled Milk at the end of the year which is going to be exciting.

Thanks Jesse. Short and sweet for now, things are crazy!. I wish you all the best for your future.

Thanks Jen!! really loved how tailored this interview was 🙂 catch you soon! xx

More on Jesse below.

The track’s release is accompanied by a new music video that was shot in Queensland’s stunning Burleigh Heads by the Jaen Collective video team. The clip echoes the fleeting moments of a young beachside romance and perfectly complements ‘The Weekend’ and its sweeping pop textures and Dunn’s ethereal vocals. The clip premiered via tastemakers Pilerats who declared Jesse Porsches’ new clip will make you pray for summer’s return.”

“We worked quite closely with the film crew across casting and locations to explore the themes visually. The video clip looks at a guy and girl who meet over a summer period, seemingly fall in love and then both move on with their lives.”

Collaboration has been key to the creative process and success for Jesse Porsches. After co-producing the track ‘Sleepless,’ the debut single by the one-and-only Flume, Jesse started his first duo Porsches in 2015 with Carl Fox, penning the breakthrough hit ‘Horses’. Porsches went on to tour nationally, both as a live band and as DJs, performing alongside superstars like Skepta, Tkay Maidza, Booka Shade and Tensnake.
