It’s Time For “Worldwide Panic”

Circumstances haven’t affected Lane Steele’s drive for success.  He’s poised and ready for success.

While it is always my goal to sit down and be a hundred percent real with someone, it doesn’t always happen. Let’s face it , sometimes people just don’t open up and tell it like it is. That isn’t the case with Lane Steele from Worldwide Panic. He’s about as honest and real as it gets, if you’re willing to take him in that direction.

We started off a little tentative. Getting to know an interviewee in fifteen minutes or less it extremely difficult. It becomes more so when they have a specific agenda: talk about the new single, promote the band, talk about a tour. Same stuff different day. I did my best to pick apart his bio prior to the interview in order to come up with something to get him off the main road and into the woods a bit.

How does it feel like to fail? (referring to the incident where he walked into the studio with head held high and ready to launch the success of his band Worldwide Panic, only to be told all the reasons it wouldn’t work. “(We) walked in with as much value as you do. This is great! ” Feeling like they made it. ” Then the person explains to you that what you’re doing isn’t good. ” That has to hurt. ” You confidently make a song you feel is super strong.” Then they had the legs cut from under them. ” They start telling you you need to hire a lyricist, as composer, an assistant, and an assistant for your assistant, on and on. They tell you how much money they think you’re going to have to spend that you don’t have.”

That’s when you have a choice. You can go with what they are saying, and quit, or you can pick yourself up and move forward. ” We are the last of a dying breed.” ( Referring to the canned artists who follow a label and has everything spoon fed to them and just do what it takes to make the money. “(It feels) as if there are people (in this business) who enjoy break you down and have no intention of building you up in the first place. There’s a lot of people who have had this experience who just quit. People say i should write a book. My book is my next album. We aren’t sore on the eyes either.” Not going to lie, they are a pretty good looking bunch. You can tell a bit by his use of that phrase, that he’s been around a little while. Twenty years to be accurate. You can’t buy this kind of experience. He takes his lumps and moves forward. He is pretty proud of it too.

They wear a lot of body paint. ” It has significance. A lot of bands blackout their necks, (but) there’s a lot of shit behind the paint. It signifies war paint. The war is with yourself and everyday you go to battle with your inner self. (Hoping) that you find your authentic self.” He really hopes people enjoy the new single “Break Me Down” as it tells the story of the struggles getting to the point the band is now. Releasing the music they feel strongly about instead of yielding to the pressure of conformity and the powers that be dictating who they are.

He shared that this will be part of a complete album. The title will be ” The Greatest Villian The World Has Ever Seen“. Itwill be a complete story. It will be about a Villian that life events has created. ” It isn’t exactly a rock opera or concept album, but it will tell a story.” I pointed out that it has been so long since a generation has seen a cocept album or rock opera that maybe it’s time. Everything old is new again.

“We hope people will dig this album and take the time to understand it. (We) didn’t do it for anyone but us . We are still finishing it. It greatly impacts touring. I wish I could clone myself, but I’m right where I supposed to be. There are no off days, not saying you don’t have DAYS OFF, but you need to show up every day and prove yourself. I was to prove I’m still able to do this. The only person you need approval from is yourself.”

“Break Me Down” was produced and mixed by Bob Marlette (Seether, Shinedown, Airbourne, Saliva; Rob Zombie); Mastered by Chris “Zeuss” Harris  (Shadows Fall, Hatebreed, Demon Hunter)
Video was directed by Andre Brown and filmed @ Monarch Film Studios in Los Angeles.
