Chris Watt- Fire Follows

Chris Watt is no stranger to hard work. He does it everyday and to a level most of us only aspire to achieve. “I’m from Colorado and I write and produce music. I’ve been doing that for most of my life. Fire Follows has been around for the last three or four years as basically a studio project and this is our first full tour.” Not only does he write and record every note since 2019, he manages to balance that with owning a logging company in Colorado. He refers to his space as his studio home and not the other way around, implying his commitment is strong to bring his music to the masses. I had to ask him what he does just to get away since he lives in that space. Originally he replied “Nothing, this is it. I lived.” but as I have learned everyone has their own interesting hobby. After a very long pause, and a quiet reminder from Emily, he replied “I have a mini goat farm. I set that up about four or five months ago on a couple acres in North Colorado Springs and there’s absolutely no good reason for them except to hang out with them and they’re awesome.” He doesn’t do goat yoga though. ” You’re like the hundredth person that’s asked me that. I’d never heard of it until I got goats but now I know ALL about goat yoga.”

I had heard about Ryan Milan, lead guitar, long before I met him, or rather his calves. I referred to him as the man with the epic calves. He “picked up the guitar at the age of sixteen ” and has “been playing for six or seven years- ish. I’m self taught. I went to the college of music as well. It’s something I was really passionate about for some time now and landed here. Saw Chris from Fire Follows online, thought it was the best music I’d ever heard. So, one thing led to another and ” his voice trails off and I noticed the ever humble Chris was blushing and I pointed it out to him. “Did I?” asked Chris. So I made sure to tell him he was blushing from his neck up. Chris turned to Ryan ” Imagine what it would have done to me if you’d have said that while I was looking at your calves.” I’m tearing up with laughter just writing this.

All joking aside, this is a project near and dear to Chris’ heart and he takes every single bit of it seriously. Enough so, that in multiple press releases he says he doesn’t care if he makes money, just that people receive his message.

Emily Gould has been drumming for twenty two years. “It’s my whole life, it’s what I do. I met Chris in… 2013? We hit it off both of us were in a different project. Chris you were in to other stuff and it just didn’t happen then, but when Fire Follows came up. I love the music and I love Chris. I have laughed more on this tour. I’m having a ball” When asked how she got here, she said she “weaseled her way in”.

Sharon Kuss, rhythm guitar on this tour, has been playing twenty years,” I was asked to try out for the band and showed up and it just clicked”. Chris added “I auditioned a couple of people and they were alright with the parts but it just wasn’t a good fit. So, Emily texted me and said ‘you might want to check out this chick who is in my all female punk band’. We exchanged a few texts, and she has this YouTube Channel called Strings and Brews, check it out, I went on to it and she plays some covers, and drinks some beer and the evals it. I watched it a few minutes and was like ‘ there she is’. Actually, I was thinking ‘for the love of God could you please do this?”

With only a few more dates, all of them in Texas, he is definitely ready to continue working on and releasing new songs “about every 8 weeks”. “There are currently four songs out and once we get to ten we may do a comp and throw in a couple extra in there .” When writing he uses both pen and paper as well as device, but everything starts on the piano, sometimes with it the final work being done as it is recorded.
