Mike From KING FALCON Talks About Stealing Cars And Being Ace.

If I’d have known how the rest of this day was going to go down, I’d have stayed on the phone longer.
I always like to give a bit of story behind the story and this is no exception Sitting in a parking garage, in Fort Lauderdale, doing a phone interview is typical for me, but this day, in particular, became, quite possibly the most memorable. Within hours of this interview I was stuck in the airport making friends of strangers and witnessing historic rainfall and flooding. I just let Mike roll through, not asking him many questions and ignoring weather warnings pop ups.
Some quick back story on the song ‘ Cadillac directly from the source:
“Yeah it’s a little bit like there’s a cool car and there’s someone you know. The premise of the video is we steal the car and we’re riding around but the song comes from my real life experience with my best friend’s car. The one that’s actually in the video. He’s had it for like I don’t know 10 years but it’s never driven in the time that he’s owned it. So I came over to his house one day I brought some starting fluid and a couple other things you need to get the thing going. I was like ‘dude, we’re going to get this thing on the road’ So, here we were, probably about 20 minutes later, car hasn’t been driven in like 10 years, no license plate, no registration, none of that stuff. It was the coolest thing ever because it’s a 19 ft long Cadillac with fins on the back and it’s bright red. So, as I was driving you know I had this great experience. I really want to steal this car. It’s just kind of been wasted sitting here for 10 years. I wanted to give people the experience of what I felt driving this car.”
My follow-up question was how did you park it anywhere did you have to parallel park if it’s 19 ft long?
“Oh no no no no We didn’t park it anywhere but I will say there was this part where we had to make a U-turn cuz we kind of got in a little too close to where too many people were. The car is not registered and we haven’t tested anything and it was on this really really tight road. We’re holding up traffic also the car died on us and if you’ve ever tried to push an old Cadillac, you’re reminded how heavy they are because they’re like completely made of steel. 1950s refrigerators. “
“Obviously the place that it died on was a gravel road so here we are pushing it up the hill through the gravel. I still have an injury that acts up when it rains I call it the Cadillac injury my souvenir.”
“A little quick history on the band James and I were in a band before being falcon called the inoculated canaries. We wanted to do something different. A cooler band name and we were having a really hard time finding a bass player Tom is a really good friend of ours who eventually became our drummer. He’s really talented and he plays every instrument Again we’ve known him for a while and it’s made James’s life better because while he’s a drummer he’s also a bass player. His real passion is putting all the sound together and stuff. He’s able to control a lot more of the show because he’s not stuck behind drums. He puts a whole light show together and he runs all that So he’s kind of got a different role now but he likes it. He wasn’t downgraded to bass, He likes to play bass. “

Currently they have a residency at the Bowery Electric in New York “pretty much every Tuesday. We’re playing at the gathering on the 24th in Vegas. “
“We do have a whole album recorded and we’re going to release songs about every 8 weeks or so. And then we’re looking at an album release in September. I think the album is going to be 11 songs. The producer is Marshall Altman who also produced Kenny Wayne Shepherd. That was a big one for me because I’m a guitar player and our music is very guitar focused as well.”
The album is also being mixed by Mark Needham. You also has done work for the killers imagine dragons Fleetwood Mac The Airborne Toxic Event.
“We also have it coming out in a movie called ‘Spinning Gold’. I play Ace frehley from Kiss. Ace actually saw it and he said ‘ it was better than I thought it was going to be ‘” Ace can be a pretty tough critic so I’m going to say. Mike did a great job.
