Triple ARIA award winning singer songwriter Shane Nicholson returns with ‘I Don’t Dance’, the second single from his brilliant new album ‘Love and Blood’.
The rocking centre piece to the album was conceived on a country music cruise last year when the singer offered to pay a friend to dance with his girlfriend Emma rather than have to get up there himself. “When we go out she loves to dance and I don’t dance,” Nicholson says. “She was slightly horrified that I paid someone else to dance with her.”
The video, filmed at Gosford City Bowl with a solo dancer, was again directed by Duncan Toombs and Josh Favoloro at The Filmery. “Working with Shane is always a pleasure. We have put him through his paces over the years and he is a good sport, whether it be taking a fake horse for a long stroll through the wilderness or having sand poured over his head. When we pitched the idea we told Shane he would only need to be on set for 25 minutes and he was sold!”
“My initial idea for the video was for me to recreate the entire final scene from Flashdance, in a leotard and leg warmers” quipped Shane. “But the concept Duncan and Josh came up with was more my style – I was only on set for 25 mins. Once again, those Filmery folks have mined gold!”
‘Love and Blood’ follows Shane’s 2015’s ARIA Award-winning masterpiece ‘Hell Breaks Loose.’ The Central Coast-based singer kept the winning formula from that album for ‘Love and Blood’, opting once again to work with producer Matt Fell at Sydney studio Love Hz and assembling a familiar cast of musicians. Included on the album is drummer Josh Schuberth and multi-instrumentalist Glen Hannah, as well as horn-player supreme James Greening who adds his delicious slab of New Orleans blues with a swagger to several tracks. Lending their vocals on the album are Josh Pyke, Andrew Swift, Fanny Lumsden and Imogen Clark plus the king of Americana music, Nashville legend Buddy Miller.
Nicholson says the title ‘Love and Blood’ “seemed to sum up what the album’s about when I put all the songs together.”
Now he’s taking the new songs and others from his distinguished back catalogue on the road. The singer found renewed enthusiasm for the touring life on the back of ‘Hell Breaks Loose’, and he’s out there once more with ‘Love and Blood’.
